AN ECTOPIC PREGNANCY!!!!

WHAT IS AN ECTOPIC PREGNANCY???

An  ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy  that implants outside  the uterus.

Almost all cases of ectopic pregnancy occurs inside the tube,

There are several causes of ectopic pregnancy ,

some are due to infection or inflammation of the falopian tubes, when this happens,the egg can get trap in the tube.

 it could also be as a result of  scar tissues from surgery in the pelvic region.

Fibroid can also block the tube so is endometriosis,

Fertility drugs which helps you produce multiple follicles could cause ectopic pregnancy..

What are the signs of an ectopic pregnancy?

Only about half of women with an ectopic pregnancy will have all three of the main signs:

 a missed period, vaginal bleeding, and belly pain.

 Other common symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include: Nausea and vomiting with pain. Sharp abdominal cramps.

Fallopian tubes can break if stretched too much by the growing pregnancy — this is sometimes called a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. 

This can cause internal bleeding, infection, and in some cases lead to death.

The main treatment options are:

expectant management – your condition is carefully monitored to see whether treatment is necessary.

medication – a medicine called methotrexate is used to stop the pregnancy growing.

surgery – surgery is used to remove the pregnancy, usually along with the affected fallopian tube.

My ectopic pregnancy  was as a result of fertility medication which I was on placed on in order to produce multiple follicles so as to increase my chances of conception..

I did the follicular tracking and was happy to have missed my cycle but unfortunately for me it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy

At six weeks ,I stated spotting,I went to the fertility clinic where I was treated and immediately they decided to do a scan to know the reason for the bleeding and that was how they discovered it was an ectopic pregnancy 

As at that time, the owner of the clinic was out of the country .the doctor decided to give me an injection that will help stop the pregnancy and for the body to absolve it in oder to preserve the tube.

But my beta hcg continued to rise which shows that the pregnancy was still there

At that point I  was so scared, confused and sad.i didn't know what to do or were to start from, I was all on my own. 

after a week with no response from the fertility clinic ,I knew I had to do something cos I could loose my life and I know how dangerous an ectopic pregnancy could be

 I called a doctor in abuja and explained my situation he asked me to come down.I got to abuja and was admitted immediately

I was suppose to have a laparoscopy to see if the tube could still be saved. but as soon as they pierced in, they discovered that I was already bleeding internally and the tube has ruptured.

they proceeded to do a laparotomy to remove the tube in oder to prevent another ectopic .

After a year without conceivng i went back to the hospital for another hsg which showed that the only remaining tube is blocked.

If you had a previous ectopic pregnancy,knowing the side will help you better manage and maximize your chances of conception.

And if you are diagnosed with hydrosalpinx or partially blocked tube, you need to treat immediately to avoid an ectopic pregnancy.

Make sure to treat all infections immediately inorder to avoid scars and inflammation .

I decided to share so that we take care when trying to conceive with all this fertility center's sprouting around .

pls go to a place with a holistic approach in case things don't go as planned. and do not self medicate on drugs that stimulate the ovaries it could in most cases do more harm than good

Finally for those who have gone through this,it is not the end for you,having an ectopic, does not mean you will not conceive, be patient and hopeful and God will bless you at his own appointed time
